FOLLOW-UP EMAIL QUOTE FROM AN ANONYMOUS WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT 12/19/07 "The workshop this past weekend was simply fantastic - and such a beautiful setting! The insights gained through the experience are truly eye-opening. The work had incredible impact for myself, as it clearly did for the other participants as well. It's a simply elegant process that delivers so much information and integration - meeting needs on all the right levels....Thanks,"
FOLLOW-UP EMAIL QUOTE FROM AN ANONYMOUS WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT 1/15/07 “… Well I've been sitting here at the computer trying to find words adequate to describe the work, my reactions to it, and what it means to me, and am filled with gratitude for the richness of the experience.. still with words inadequate to the task.. you would see me with eyes brimming with tears of gratitude.. feel free to pass this on to [Albert Pesso].. thank you.”
FOLLOW-UP EMAIL QUOTE FROM ANOTHER ANONYMOUS WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT 1/9/07 "Wow - many thanks and best regards to Al. It was such an incredible 3 days!"
3/18/03 QUOTE FROM ELAINE B. PINDERHUGHES PROFESSOR EMERITA, BOSTON COLLEGE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK "As a practitioner and long time teacher of clinical theory and practice (psychodynamic and family therapy), I had had evidence of the soundness of PBSP theory and its effectiveness in practice via observations of Al Pesso's work at clinical meetings. However my conviction of the efficacy of the theory in treatment was substantially reinforced through personal experience of his training seminars which I sought to help me cope with my husband's death. Despite having been psychoanalyzed years ago and having completed family of origin work as part of my training as a family therapist, Pesso's work reached depths not tapped earlier and reworked issues in ways that created greater integration and self understanding than ever believed possible. It is his ability to tap experience at the earliest developmental levels, along with his ever vigilant stance that is respectful of the ego's readiness to accept and integrate new information, that makes his work so stunning and transformative. Of special significance to me also was the capacity to incorporate cultural (ethnic/racial) dynamics to the many levels of understanding gained."
EXCERPT FROM "THE IMAGE OF THE SELF AND THE BODY" BY ALBERT PESSO PRESENTED AT A PLENARY SESSION OF THE SEVENTH WORLD CONGRESS OF PSYCHOMOTORICITY IN NICE, FRANCE. APRIL 1986
Copyright 1986 Albert Pesso "The true self, the soul, may sometimes not be permitted direct conscious expression by the ego, yet it may continue to live in a hidden form, in a disguised form - waiting until circumstances allow it to emerge into the light of day, and into the sight of the world. Of course, it could be living wonderfully out in the open, just as it is, moment to moment, with full acknowledgment by the ego. This is the goal, not only of therapy, but of all forms of education and religion which attempt to help us cultivate and enjoy the fullest meaning and experience of life.
DESCRIPTION OF PBSP FROM, "MOVEMENT IN PSYCHOTHERAPY" Albert Pesso, NYU Press, 1969 "This method provides a means of experiencing more of one’s "organic" self as a living, moving, organism, as well as a thinking, conceptualizing, verbalizing being. Although man’s concepts and way of seeing things evolves and is evolving rapidly, man’s organismic self has remained constant for as long as man has been man. Yet each culture has made different assessments as to what man’s organismic or "given self" is and forces, or allows, him to act accordingly. Psychomotor training attempts to come into contact, experientially, with this organismic given, without recourse to cultural concepts and preconceptions. Thus one hopes, by this method, to verify what one is organismically and then upon this foundation, build the intellectual, rational and verbal superstructure which is the gift given only to man and which allows only man to adapt, vary, and evolve according to changing external conditions."
