Institute 6th Annual Somatic Psychology Symposium: Trauma and Development July 25-27, 1997
 This
symposium brings together an exciting and varied cast of experts in the field of trauma and somatic psychology. Bessel van der Kolk, Al Pesso, Pat Ogden, Peter Levine, Kekuni Minton and Susan Aposhyan |
Therapeutic attempts to resolve trauma evoke the inherent danger of retraumatization.
This symposium is organized with the intention of establishing the healthy ground necessary to integrate trauma into a positive developmental direction. This ground must be established cognitively, somatically and relationally. Crucial neurological mechanisms, attachment theory and somatic clinical techniques will be presented. Models of integrating cognitive, relational and somatic approaches will be established. The format of the symposium will weave together panel discussions, demonstrations, theoretical presentations and experiential exercises. A primary intention of the symposium is to create a forum for dialogue.
