FIRST ANNOUCEMENT
7th INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF BODY PSYCHOTHERAPY BODY PSYCHOTHERAPY AND ITS SOCIAL CONNECTIONS OCTOBER 13th TO 16th, 2005 SÃO PAULO - BRAZIL Body Psychotherapy took inspiration from the work of the medical and natural scientist Wilhelm Reich (1897 - 1957). In the decades since then, body psychotherapy has incorporated many other important influences; produced rigorous therapeutic methods; and demonstrated, in a theoretical and practical way, the effectiveness of its propositions. Nowadays, whilst there are many and distinguished approaches within the body psychotherapy field, all of them are concerned about the same pressing question: the quality of life. We live in a complex age, marked by a crisis of ethical values and issues of globalization, which are simultaneously integrative and at the same time almost inhuman, but are marked by unprecedented and promising paradigms. At this moment, more than ever, the human being is inserted in a functional, sensitive and non-linear network that connects the private, the neighborhood, the town and the ecosystems. For a long while, the type of practice, the one-on-one relationship and the knowledge-base determined the extent of the sessions in a psychotherapist's office. Several practices have now been developed in hospitals, communities, enterprises, schools and other dimensions of the social net, and new paradigms are coming to the fore. So, in this Congress we propose a reflection on these trends. On one hand, this event will join clinical and social work practiced in different countries, providing a rare opportunity for body psychotherapists to get to know the practices of their peers. On the other hand, we will make the proposition of explaining our ideas in the clearest way possible, in order to allow the participants of the Congress, and also the public that attended it, can interact and maybe produce creative resonances within their own social connections. The congress will be realized in São Paulo, the biggest and most developed town in the country. The place will be at SESC a public very large place, open to increase life-quality with many different possibilities. If you want you can access by Internet at: http://www.sescsp.org.br/sesc/, please navigate and get to know all the space. We will have a big theatre for 800 people and rooms for workshops. The idea is to include part of the community that usually frequent the place on our congress, by reserving a number of chairs in the theatre and also we will program open workshops at the open spaces for the public, in this way we will follow the idea of having our scientific and specific congress for us and at the same time we will run a parallel congress for the SESC’s public. There will be an Internet place to be used with 20 computers connected to ISDN. The plans are to program a special event on Internet connections organized by a philosopher specialized on this area. The profits of this congress will be donated to the Brazilian program: “hunger zero”.
