| return to What's New? return to PBSP® Community News The following report on this workshop was sent in by Gus Kaufman. Gus is a Certified PBSP® Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer, and also the coordinator for this workshop.
The Southeast Psychomotor Society (SEPS) held a highly successful daylong workshop, “Clinical Application of PBSP® for Alcohol/Drug Addictions and Eating Disorders,” Saturday, October 11, 2003 in Atlanta. 35 people attended. (It followed an introduction to PBSP® Friday, led by Gus Kaufman, Jr., Ph.D., attended by 14 people. In the afternoon Rick Kilmer, Ph.D. and Debbie Willbur, LCSW presented on PBSP® and eating disorders. Debbie spoke about identifying eating disorders in private practice and using the PBSP® diagnostic grid—telling a client about basic needs for example—to help client and therapist organize the client’s experience. She showed a video clip of one such intervention. Rick led the group through exercises to understand the experience of an eating-disordered client and described the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders’ (ACE) program. One provocative idea he presented involved having the client enroll group members to play “favorite” foods. Susan Painter, MS announced she will head Illuminata (www.Illuminataatl.com), a new Stage II treatment program for women in recovery in the Atlanta area, which will feature PBSP® work. And, as evidence of the positive impact of the workshop, ten therapists signed as interested in a new training program in PBSP® to be based in Atlanta led by Al Pesso and Gus Kaufman.
